JOHN'S STORY

A Story based on experiences I've seen in my workMaybe it just started like this.....
John had his first cigarette when he was nine.
Just curious....Just to see what it was like ...
His friends were smoking and saying "NO" somehow felt harder than say "Yes "
"Go on ..just try it."
John thought : " I won't tell my parents .Nobody will know.
I'm not going to became a smoker . I'll just try one"
And he did
Then, a little later , there was the same group of friends.
And another cigarette.
Soon , smoking meant hiding from his parents .
Hiding during school breaks. Making excuses.
And somewhere along the way " just one cigarette" became a habit.
Years passed. John tried to quit.
But quitting wasn't as easy as he had imagined.
The cigarette had become part of his life-and in many ways ,
he had become a prisoner of the habit.
Then came serious health problems.
This time , there was no more "I'll quit someday"
John understood that his health -and his life -could depend on making a change.
So he did . He quit.
And today , John has one simple message for anyone who still smokers :
" Don't wait until your health forces you to quit ! Quit while you still have the choice"

Do you know how dependent you are on nicotine?

Take a quick self-check.Answer these questions honestly:1. How soon after waking up do you need your first cigarette?- Within 5 minutes
- 5–30 minutes
- After 1 hour
2. How do you cope in places where smoking is not allowed? For example: on a plane, in a hospital or during a long meeting.- I find it very difficult
- I can manage, but I think about smoking
- I don't find it particularly difficult
If you need a cigarette within the first few minutes after waking and find it difficult
to go without smoking in places where you cannot smoke,
it may be a sign that nicotine has a strong hold on your daily life.
